She wished she could elevate her swollen legs and relax, but her recliner no longer lived up to its name, having lost its ability to do so for the past couple weeks. She’d fix it if she could, but the poultry living she made from her dead-end job made it hard to fund even casual comforts over the essentials. She was literally living paycheck to paycheck, a reality faced by so many in the world. Every day felt like a struggle for comfort, her body breaking down over the years since her diabetes diagnosis. She hadn’t been the healthiest prior, but living paycheck to paycheck she had lacked the motivation prior to pay much mind to it till the consequences caught up with her. James wake up!” A slim, well-trimmed Cameron, wearing nothing but their boxer shorts and white, sleeveless T-shirt, shook their friend passed out on the ground. James was dressed in similar lounging attire to them, the two mere moments ago having been in a living room late at night. Cameron’s panic was understandable, having just woken up in a cold chill on the edges of a giant, floating concrete structure miles up in the sky, unable to see the ground beneath the clouds.
